Porridge

Pears

This porridge is delicious any day but it is particularly good on a cold morning. It does not need any sugar added to it as the grated pears and the sliced bananas provide enough sweetness, but of course it is up to one’s individual taste. Rolled oats can be replaced with rolled brown rice for those with gluten sensitivity.

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 2 pears, grated
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tablespoon shredded coconut
  • 1 tablespoon ground LSA (mixture of linseeds, sunflower seeds and almonds)

To serve

  • 4 bananas sliced
  • generous sprinkle of cinnamon
  • chopped almonds or walnuts
  • extra milk on the side
  • 4 teaspoons honey (optional)

Method

  1. Mix rolled oats, grated pear, coconut, LSA, water and milk in a non-stick saucepan. Leave aside for 15 minutes.
  2. Cook on a moderate heat for about 15 minutes, stirring frequently.
  3. Divide porridge into 4 bowls, sprinkle with cinnamon, add bananas, chopped nuts and honey (optional). Serve with extra milk.
