Low Starch Diet also helps prevent calcium loss from bone

Bones

A diet low in starch (like the one I recommend) has been proven by a recent study at the University of Illinois to not only assist with weight loss, but prevent calcium loss from bone which can happen with other diets. Below is a summary of the study as reported in ScienceDaily (June 6, 2008)

Tea Time

There are so many tea varieties on the market these days. But which one works best for you?

Eating for teenagers

Teenager eating

Am I imagining it, or are teenagers taller, cleverer and better looking than they were twenty years ago? Every so often, under the guidance of their shorter stubbier parent, one of these young gods gangles into my clinic. Very often the complaint is poor energy and lack of concentration at school.

Between Newsletters Newsletter

As you know, it’s highly unusual that I even get my quarterly newsletter out on time … yet here is an EXTRA newsletter. I thought I would share with you three newsworthy items. A meditation teacher, a hypnotherapist and a morning tea.

Acid forming foods

Oranges

Our body likes to be in a state of steady balance (homoeostasis). We prefer our blood pressure to be within a certain safe range, same goes for blood sugar levels, hormone levels, temperature and pH levels. pH is a measure of acid/base (alkali).

Roast Vegetable and Lentil Salad

Whether you visit the greengrocer or the vegetable garden these ingredients are in season and at their freshest. This salad can be served as a meal in itself or as an accompaniment to a grander feast.

Preparation time is approximately 1 hour and the best part is that once you have the lentils on and the vegetables in the oven there is time to enjoy the aromas.

Summer

Welcome to Beaming with Health Newsletter … DECEMBER (already!) 2007. I am convinced there is a time hastening process that begins around August every year … after this, time seems to speed up. Christmas decorations appear in DJ’s early in September, the REALLY annoying Vivaldi Four Seasons buskers start playing in Pitt. St mall, and before you know it, it’s the end of the year.
